Miss Dawn Dickson
Learning Mentor, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
My primary role in school is to ensure that our children are safe, happy and are listened to. I ensure that the Oasis is a calm, safe environment for children to be themselves, to express their concerns and to be heard. The child’s voice is important at Meadowfield.
I offer support and guidance to children and young people who are struggling with social, emotional or behavioural issues that affect their ability to learn.
Part of my role involves contributing to appropriate support packages and running 1-1 sessions and groups for children who need extra support with their emotions, confidence and resilience.
I have links with extended services, working closely with the Cluster, Social Care, Health Professionals and the Police. As a member of the pastoral team I support families with food parcels, referrals to Zarach for bed packages.
On Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes I run a social club for the children to attend, to build friendships and social skills.
Once a month, I organise a parent pod session which is open to all parents/carers in our school community. This provides the opportunity for parents/carers to come into school and complete activities with their children.
With attendance being so important for our children I carry out home visits with Mrs Elsom. I work on breaking down the barriers that many families have around their child’s attendance at school.
